When reusability is a must, this hand-held thermal cautery unit is ideal. It can be used multiple times and provides a stable burn at approximately 1200°C (2200 °F). It also includes two AA replaceable batteries and one single-use (fine) electrode tip. This lightweight unit is compatible only with our CT-2121, CT-2101, and CT-2103 tips (sold separately). Each tip is packaged with a sterile sheath to cover the base unit. (See the Reference Material Tab for How to Change Tips) RX only product. End user must be a licensed physician. A popular occlusion method is thermal cautery. This is done by inserting the tip of the cautery device into the vas lumen and desiccating the luminal mucosa of the vas to create a firm scar that will occlude the vas.

Hand-Held Thermal Cautery used in Vasectomy

A survey of vasectomists in the United States indicates that cauterization, or fulguration, of the vasal lumen during vasectomy is the most frequently employed method of occlusion. Fully 70% of all vasectomists cauterize.

Studies strongly suggests that thermal (hotwire) cautery is better because it results in 50 times fewer cases of sperm granuloma post-vasectomy.

5 Steps to Changing Tips

On a clean, non-sterile surface, remove Carefully open a cautery tip peel pouch. Remove the sterile double sheath from the peel pouch.

Insert the nose cone end of the power handle into the sheath between the white plastic and white paper tabs. Slide the handle forward until the nose is at the tip of the sterile sheath as seen in Steps 1 & 2.

Touching ONLY the clear plastic tip protector, remove the sterile tip from the peel pouch. Place the gold copper ends of the sterile tip through the inner sheath into the power handle. DO NOT FORCE. Tip should slide easily into place as seen in Step 3.

Holding the base unit in one hand, gently peel away the outer sheath. Be careful not to touch the sterile inner sheath with your hands. Seen in Step 4

Before removing the outer sheath completely, place the covered plug end down onto a sterile tray. Seen in Step 5.
